Transitioning

My letter to families announcing my transition from my role as Founding School Director at DSST: Conservatory Green High School at the end of the 20-21 school year.

CGHS Families,

With a heavy heart, I wanted to share that I will be transitioning from my role as School Director at the end of this school year.  While these types of announcements can feel surprising and often bring forth feelings of concern for families - I want you to know that our team and I have been planning my departure for over a year now to make this as smooth as possible a transition for our entire school community.   Over the last year, I have been intentionally developing the leadership of others on campus in preparation for my departure to ensure there is the least possible impact on our students.   I could not be more confident in the readiness of our staff and leadership team to sustain the excellence of our school and take it to even higher heights.  Though I am departing, the heart of our school - our entire school leadership team, teaching team, and support staff will be returning next year and remain almost entirely intact.  Our school’s success has always been about the community and collective, not any singular individual, and I am glad that the community will remain together through my transition.

While there will be change at Conservatory Green High School, the foundation of what we’ve built over the past four years is strong and will continue on.  Alongside an incredible group of educators, families and students, we’ve fought hard to build a school that expands opportunity, fights inequity, and is values-driven.  The work of educating our students is always “in-progress”, but our school community represents what I believe is the best about our city - and  I couldn’t be more hopeful and proud about the foundation we’ve built over the the last four years:

  • Relationships & Community:  Our team believes that “No great learning happens without a great relationship” - We are intentional, thoughtful, and authentically care for each other as a community.   The relationships formed between our school community are the foundation for all that we accomplish together.

  • Raising the bar for what’s possible for students in the city of Denver.  Transformational academic growth and outcomes for our students.  The #1 performing High School in Denver.

  • Equity, Justice and Inclusion:  Equity of opportunity for all of our students is at the heart of our mission.  Celebrating, honoring, and learning about our differences makes us stronger - it doesn’t divide us.

  • Core Values & Character:  We are  a values driven community that believes that culture and character are as important as grades and achievement.  We believe that the way we treat each other is as important as any facet of our education.

  • 100% - Every Child Succeeds:  We recognize that when we give students the right setting, support, and opportunities - every one of them can achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves.

  • Innovation & Believing Anything is Possible: Our staff and students are the entrepreneurs of their own experience and we will always believe that anything is possible in making the best learning environment for our community.

As you engage in the process of helping select a new School Director, I ask that you join me in giving our team the utmost support to our team as they work to build an even stronger Conservatory Green High School in the coming years.  Look for additional communications shortly about our DSST network’s selection process, opportunities to engage, and culminating in the announcement of our new leader.

A personal note:

Simply put, the experience I have been a part of  at Conservatory Green High School has been a dream come to reality - and in many ways our school is far beyond the dreams I even imagined it.  I fully intend to maximize these last few weeks and months with our Hornet team and family.  My commitment will be as strong as ever to ensuring that we have extraordinary outcomes for all of our students - and I will also be enjoying it, soaking up every memory I have with our students and celebrating our seniors at our very first graduation this May!

What’s next for me?  I won’t be going far and will be exploring opportunities to expand my impact in our DSST network and beyond in the coming weeks and months.  While I've not settled yet on my exact next step, I will take all I’ve learned from my experience at CG with me to help expand opportunity and serve students and families in the city of Denver.

Lastly, I wanted to express my sincerest gratitude to the educators, families, and staff - who in some sense or another along the way decided to take a chance on a new school and new leader. Your belief and support for me and our school is special and something I will always cherish. You have helped me learn and grow, held me accountable to our mission, supported me, and simply given me so much more than I could have possibly given to you. I am sincerely committed to each of you and will always be here in service of all of you in the years beyond my time at Conservatory Green. Thank you.
